This year’s FSB Expo and National Conference in Glasgow was an event full of superlatives – exceptional visitor numbers, the most traditional and digital media coverage, the best ever expo and the fastest ever AGM.

Over the course of three days, FSB welcomed over 1,100 attendees, signed up 45 new members, enjoyed the wit and advice from our host, BBC Journalist and Newsnight presenter, Kirsty Wark and talked all things business, politics, as well as making new connections through the networking breakfast.

Visitors heard from a number of high profile political speakers including Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell and Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson. Seminars and keynote speeches were delivered from a range of industry experts including; Ofcom’s Chief Executive, Sharon White, jam entrepreneur Fraser Doherty, Google, BSI’s experts, Epson’s European Executive Director of Vertical Business and the CEO of Bizfitech among many others.

In our Expo area, we put our visitors’ leadership, communication, and problem solving skills to the test by taking FSB’s Armed Forces Challenge, offering free training from military instructors from the Army and Navy.

We had a full 3-day seminar programme including presentations on Branding, Pensions Auto-Enrolment, preparing for the Digital Marketplace and Enterprise Skills.

Our official service providers were on hand to give expert advice and also delivered some of the seminars, including our newly launching telecommunications service, FSB Communications, who offered a free bill checker service to members attending conference.

Not forgetting the fantastic cocktails provided on the L&G stand (non-alcoholic but quite delicious) and the state-of-the-art bike powered printer and photocopier on Epson’s stand which literally drew the attention of our delegates.

FSB is coming to Torbay for 2017...

David Shephard, Devon Regional Chairman, believes National Conference is coming home when Devon hosts the showpiece event. He is also delighted that Torquay has been chosen to allow the spotlight to fall on a rural area for the first time in many years. The Regional Chairman is confident the attractions of Devon, superb beaches, quality food and drink and the normal superb weather will attract delegates from all over the country.

The showcase event will be held at The Riviera International Centre in Torquay, one of the top venues in Devon. The stunning centre has a 1,500-capacity conference hall and a 1,750 sq metre Exhibition Hall with banqueting facilities for in excess of 1,200 guests. It is situated in the heart of South Devon with a car park and within easy reach of Torquay train station. The journey time to London is less than three hours. The nearest airport is Exeter which has daily flights to Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford and Newcastle. David added: “Devon hosted the first Conference so we believe Conference is coming home. “We had two other Conferences but thereafter many of the Conferences have been held in big cities and our Regional Committee felt it was time Conference came back to a rural area.”
